China's broadband users have skyrocketed fourfold to 9.8 million from a
year before, according to a CNNIC survey released yesterday on hotspots in the
country's Internet sector. The number is nearly 15 percent of the nation's total
Internet population. The nationwide survey, cited by today's Beijing Youth
Daily, is one of the two annual researches by China Internet Network Information
Center (CNNIC), the country's Internet industry watchdog. It targets people
above six years old, but excludes university students on campus. Besides
broadband, the survey covers the industry's another hotspot, short messaging
service (SMS), indicating China's online SMS users send an average 11 messages
each week, with 60 percent of the monthly bills under 10 yuan
(US$1).
