Local Little Smart service won't go inter-provincial
27/11/2003 15:13

Little Smart users in Shanghai won't be able to send or receive short messages to or from users of the same citywide mobile phoning service out of the city, as the local telecommunications operator has no plan yet to open the inter-provincial short messaging service (SMS), today's Shanghai Morning Post said citing spokesman with Shanghai Telecom Co Ltd.
The declaration came in response to the recent report that Little Smart users in Shandong, Shanxi, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces will soon have their SMS go inter-provincial.
And the service will probably be applied to all the northern China provinces, as China Netcom Corp, Little Smart operator of the four provinces, are reportedly completing the inter-provincial testing among its branches in the other six northern provinces.
Shanghai launched the Little Smart service last August only in the suburban districts and counties of Songjiang, Fengxian, Nanhui, Qingpu, Jiading, Jinshan and Chongming and Baoshan.
Users there are able to send and receive short messages between these areas but not with out-of-town dialers.
Each message is charged at 0.08 yuan (1 US cent), half the rate for those offered via the mobile phones.
