Little Smart expands to downtown areas
17/12/2003 15:14

People in downtown Shanghai will also be able to enjoy the Little Smart service from next year with a package monthly fee at 60 yuan (US$7.3), today's Shanghai Morning Post said, citing a recent advertisement on an unnamed media.
The initial registration fee is not required.
Currently, the citywide mobile phone service is only availed in such suburban Shanghai districts as Fengxian and Songjiang.
The Shanghai Morning Post report said the ads indicated the service's operator, Shanghai Telecom Co Ltd, will probably upgrade its phone network in downtown area before the business expansion and will likely raise the price after the upgrade.
It encourages consumers to register for the business soon and avoid the possible price rise.
"If you want to sign for the Little Smart business, you'd better make the deal before next February," said a Little Smart salesperson, cited by the report in anoynym.
Unlikely its suburban networks, Shanghai Telecom's Little Smart net in downtown areas adopts CDMA1900 (Code Division Multiple Access) technology rather than the personal handy-phone system (PHS). The CDMA technology is said not so stable as PHS.
