First domestic 3G handset debuts
23/3/2004 15:20
The Shenzhen Huawei Technology Co Ltd announced yesterday the debut of
its homemade third-generation (3G) mobile phones at a global 3G conference at
Cannes, France last month. The phones are the first of this type made in China.
The company will enter large-scale commercial production by June this year,
eastday.com reported today. Although the domestic 3G network is still being
tested, competition has begun among 3G handset makers, said an industry
analyst. At the end of last February, other domestic handset makers Dbtel,
Konka and Legend released plans to develop 3G mobile phones by the end of the
year or early next year. Domestic telecommunication equipment giant Huawei,
hoping to compensate for having missed out on the golden years of the domestic
handset industry, began handset production at the end of last year to target the
3G mobile phone market.
