Shanghai Telecom taps online games

Shanghai Telecom Co yesterday made a foray into the fledgling online
gaming business, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported. The wholly- invested
new unit signals Shanghai Telecom's key expansion of its business from telecom
operation to gaming, industry analysts said, a move that will help broaden its
revenue sources.
The company also announced yesterday that its first game
is in the testing stages.
Previously, Shanghai Telecom handled the gaming
only through support services, as in providing broadband access, platforms and
servers to game operators.
