Despite the price increases of short message services (SMS) by the Guangzhou Unicom, Shanghai Unicom will not follow suit, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
"We will not raise the prices, and haven't received any circulars from our parent company," said a supervisor with the marketing department of Shanghai Unicom.
Guangzhou Unicom, China Unicom's Guangzhou branch, announced to charge its subscribers 0.15 yuan (US$0.018) for each short message to users from other mobile communication networks, 0.05 yuan more than previously.
Early in May 2002, China Mobile Communications Co Ltd began to raise each SMS fees between different mobile communication networks from 0.10 yuan to 0.15 yuan.
