This month, users of cordless phone service Little Smart will have a longer
bill for their short messages, as the charge for each message sent to a mobile
phone subscriber is being raised to 0.1 yuan (1 US cent) from the previous 0.08
yuan.
All local Little Smart users received this message yesterday from
Shanghai Telecom Co Ltd, the only Little Smart operator in Shanghai, today's
Youth Daily reported.
The charge for messages between Little Smart users,
however, remains at 0.08 yuan each.
Shanghai Telecom explained the fee
increase comes as a result of its improved service.
Before this month, the
short message service between Little Smart and mobile phone users was available
on a trial basis, and some users found the service interrupted due to the
imperfect networks, according to company officials as quoted in the Youth Daily
report. But as of March, the service will work perfectly, the officials
said.
After its introduction last October, short message service between
Little Smart and mobile phone users has been warmly received. Nearly 1.9
million messages were sent via this cross network service on February 8, the Eve
of the Chinese Lunar Year, according to Shanghai Telecom.
The service has
helped to increase local Little Smart subscribers to 1 million by the end of
last year and Shanghai Telecom hopes the number will jump by another 1
million this year.
