Shanghai plans to establish 200 standard cleaning service stations for motor
vehicles every year, and to eliminate those without licences from the city
center this year, today's Youth Post reported.
"Only 500 car-cleaning
stations involving nearly 2,000 workers have been recorded with us, " said Gu
Wenxiang, director with the vehicle appearance management section of the
Shanghai Environmental Protection office.
Shanghai has registered more than
two million motor vehicles to date, 870,000 of them four-wheel vehicles. A
car-cleaning station can serve 50 vehicles a day, so only a total of 25,000
vehicles can be cleaned at standard service outlets every day, Gu pointed
out.
Those without licenses have created such problems as environmental
pollution and noise. Most complaints have related to the poor quality of
workers, Gu stressed.
In order to standardize the service market and improve
the qualifications of those working in this sector, all workers must be trained
and tested. Only those who pass the test and earn certificates will be allowed
to do the work.
Eighty percent of the local car cleaning stations must be up
to the standard. All those without licenses will be eliminated from such central
districts as Jing'an, Huangpu, Luwan and Xuhui District this year. As well, 80
percent of the unlicenced stations will be removed from the suburban area.
