Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Co Ltd, a 50-50 Sino-German joint venture
automaker, is considering entering the second-hand car business to take
advantage of China's booming auto market, today's Shanghai Morning Post
said.
As a way to test market reaction to the new business, the company has
unveiled three selected used cars at the latest international car trade fair in
south China's Shenzhen and demonstrated its evaluation service for second-hand
vehicles. Guided by 36 professional technical test items, the company evaluated
and purchased second-hand vehicles as trade-ins at the show. The buyer needs to
pay only the price difference between a new car and the second-hand vehicle, and
he can keep the used car's plates.
Industry insiders are regarding this as a
signal that Shanghai VW is now looking at the second-hand vehicle
business. With a comprehensive approach ranging from evaluation to
testing, trades and sales, Shanghai VW is building its brand image for new
business and enhancing its brand awareness, they pointed out.
Shanghai VW,
they said, as an automaker operating the nation's largest line of products, is
leading the way to establish a standardized second-hand auto market in
China.
