23/1/2003 15:27
Shanghai General Motors officially announced the prices of two Buick Regal
models today, the Regal G2.5 at 243,800 yuan (US$29,373) and the Regal GL2.5 at
263,800 yuan, both expected to debut nationwide by February 10, the Shanghai
Morning Post reported today.
The Regal G2.5 is the first of Buick's mid
and high-end V6 sedans priced below 250,000 yuan.
Shanghai GM aims to use
the models to claim a higher share of the domestic mid and high-end sedan
market, said an industry analyst.
The Regal G2.5's main rival is the
Guangzhou Honda's new Accord, with 2.4 liters of engine capacity and priced at
259,800 yuan, said an automobile expert. It will also influence sales of another
new model, the 2.3-liter Mazda M6, which will hit the market soon, the expert
said.
Shanghai GM will introduce a lower-priced 2.0-liter Buick Regal
series next month, creating competition for sedans priced between 180,000 yuan
and 250,000 yuan.
Shanghai GM will complete its product series next
month with V63.0-liter, V62.5-liter and V62.0-liter sedans.
