Car production and sales soar in first quarter

The Chinese automobile industry reported rapid growth last month, with car
production and sales reaching historic highs, according to the China Association
of Automobile Manufacturers.
Automobile production reached 411,400 in
China last month, an increase of 30.95 percent from a month before and 42.97
percent from the previous year.
China manufactured 974,800 automobiles in
the first quarter of the year, an increase of 54.7 percent from a year before,
with sedan output amounting to 398,000, up 127.28 percent from the previous
year, according to the association.
Auto sales reached 390,100 last
month, increasing by 49.17 percent from the previous month and 33.22 percent
from a year before.
A total of 974,800 automobiles were sold in the first
quarter of the year, rising by 51.71 percent from a year before, with sedan
sales reaching 383,400, double that of the previous year, according to the
association.
Sales of light trucks and passenger vehicles grew by more
than 50 percent from January to March from a year before, while those of
mid-size and mini trucks and mid-size passenger cars had smaller growth than the
previous year, the association indicated.
