More white-collars taking taxis to work

Li, a taxi driver with the Dazhong Transportation (Group) Co. Ltd, is
feeling relieved lately, now that more white-collar employees are chartering his
taxi to go back and forth to work, making up for his losses during the SARS
period, the Xinmin Evening News reported today.
Though SARS has cast a
shadow on the local taxi industry, Li's regular customers have increased from
two or three a day previously to more than ten recently.
"Besides taking
white-collar employees to work or home everyday, I also take them to meet their
clients, Li said. "As I have comparatively regular customers, many locals want
to charter my taxi," he added.
Three or four colleagues who live near one
another often share taxis to and from work to save costs, said an industry
analyst.
Mid and short-term car rental services are also popular in the
city.
According to several local car rental companies including Shanghai
Anji Car Rental Co, Shanghai Yongda Car Rental Co and Shanghai Dazhong Car
Leasing Co, one-year car rentals have declined while mid and short-term ones are
on the rise, particular three-month rentals.
