German automobile manufacturer Audi AG launches announced on Saturday
to launch Audi A8, the latest model of its luxury flagship limousine Audi
series, in China at a price ranging between 1.3-1.5 million yuan
(US$157,000-181,000), at its opening ceremony of an auto showroom in
Beijing. The showroom is Audi's ninth global showroom and also the only one
in Asia. Two versions of Audi A8 are availed, according to People's Daily,
one of a 3.7-liter engine and the other of a 4.2-liter engine. The new model
groups nearly all the exclusive Audi technologies, such as multimedia
interactive system (MMI), Audi Space Frame (APS) and Quattro permanent
four-wheel drive. The launch of Audi's latest luxury model is based on Audi's
booming car business in China and its bullish view about the domestic high-end
auto market, according to senior officials with the company attending the
opening ceremony of its showroom in Beijing. In the first half of this year,
Audi sold 29,217 sedans in China, soaring 84 percent from the same period of
last year. Of the sold cars, 25,272 were Audi A6. Sale of Audi A4 has hit
3,108 in the past two months since it rode onto China's
market.
