5/8/2003 15:31

Beijing has boasted more than two million motor vehicles by 5 p.m. yesterday, with private motor vehicles accounting for 64 percent, or 1.28 million, the Beijing Youth Post reported today.
Among the 1.28 million private motor vehicles, 800,000 are private cars.
According to statistics, every 100 households in Beijing own 30.5 motor vehicles and 19 private cars on average, with 25 percent of Beijing residents able to drive.
The number of motor vehicles in Beijing has increased from one million in February of 1997 to two million to date, with private vehicles contributing more to the growth.
Beijing's motor vehicles will maintain a rapid growth in the coming several years, with the number expected to reach 3.5 million by the year 2008.
