SVW will not output Beatle
2/9/2003 15:44

Volkswagen AG will not produce Beatle cars in its joint venture in Shanghai, a senior official of the German automobile giant's import car section said last Saturday at a press conference.
Instead, SVW will import 1,000 Beatle cars to sell in China and VW will introduce its latest Beatle models to the country, the official said.
The statement was made in response to recent domestic media reports that the company will output Beatle cars in its local joint venture Shanghai Volkswagen Auto Corp.
The first batch of 1,500 Beatles will be assembled of imported parts at the Shanghai plant and will probably hit the market around the year's end at a price of about 300,000 yuan (US$36,276), according to the reports.
