Domestically-produced BMW 3 and 5-series sedans are expected to roll
off the line by the end of the year, and buyers are now allowed to book the
models, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today. The BMW Group and
Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Limited signed a contract for a production
and distribution joint venture in Shenyang on March 27 this year. "The new
joint venture will roll out the first batch of BMW 3 and 5-series sedans by the
end of the year," said Ma Qingsheng, spokesman with BMW's Chinese representative
office. The detailed information of the BMW sedans such as the prices will be
released when they hit the market, Ma said. The BMW Brilliance joint venture
has established a representative office in Beijing, which is the only office
around the nation that currently accepts telephone bookings of BMW 3 and 5
series models. The price of domestic BMW 3-series sedans is likely to reach
some 400,000 yuan (US$48,000), an industry analyst
predicted.
