Hyundai powerhouse of Beijing car industry

Sales volumes of Sonata sedans with the Beijing Hyundai hit 40,000 by
the end of last month, with sales volumes of nearly 6.5 billion yuan (US$780
million). More than 60 percent of Sonata auto parts are domestically produced,
eastday.com reported today. Beijing Hyundai has become a powerhouse, boosting
the Beijing auto industry, said an industry analyst. "Up to 38,000 Sonata
sedans were sold by the end of September, with sales volumes of 6.478 billion
yuan, and our sales target is 50,000 this year, with sales volumes expected to
hit 9 billion yuan," said Guo Qian, executive vice manger with Beijing Hyundai.
"We expect to sell 100,000 Sonata sedans next year, 300,000 the year after
and have a capacity of 550,000 by 2010," Guo said. "A new model will hit the
market every year, and more car models such as sedans and jeeps are expected to
be produced by 2008," he added. More than 68 percent of Sonata auto parts are
domestically made to date, with the proportion expected to hit 74 percent by the
end of the year, Guo pointed out.
