BMW sedan buyers must provide true names

As part of the move to prevent dealers from collecting emergency fees,
local purchasers must provide their true names when buying domestically-made
Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) sedans, the Shanghai Morning Post reported
yesterday. Sales of domestically-produced BMW 325i sedans will kick off in
Shanghai on October 22, with 50 sedans this month and 70 next month. BMW 325i
sedans began being sold in Beijing and Shenyang last Saturday, and began
receiving bookings in Shanghai yesterday, with each booker required to pay
deposits of 50,000 yuan (US$6,000). Reacting to concerns that the popularity
of the new sedans will raise their prices, a senior official with BMW Brilliance
promised that agents were not allowed to collect various kinds of fees because
of the booming sales. "We will not collect emergency fees from clients," said
a sales supervisor with Shanghai Bowdex, BMW's local dealer. "The
domestically-made luxury cars will not be sold to other dealers, and each buyer
is required to offer his true name," the supervisor added. The BMW 325i,
BMW's best seller worldwide, is part of the BMW 3-series,. BMW 325i, priced
at 473,850 yuan, is more than 200,000 yuan cheaper than imported equivalents,
and is predicted to deal a heavy blow to Audi A4 series, popular car models on
the Chinese market, said an industry analyst.
