Shanghai VW rolls out Santana 3000

The Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Company offered its
locally-developed Santana 3000 series sedans in Kunming this morning. Compared
with its predecessor, the Santana 2000, it is improved both in appearance and
capacity, the Youth Post reported today. The front of the new models is similar
with that of the Passat, the analyst said.
As Shanghai VW's secret weapon
this year, Santana 3000 sedans are expected to be a hit in the domestic car
market, said an industry analyst. The Santana 3000 models are spacious. At
4.7 meters long and 14.5 meters high, they are less than a centimeter longer and
3.6 cm higher than the Santana 2000 models, though with the same width, 1.7
meters.
An advanced central electronic control system in the Santana 3000
sedans, with frequency conversion air-conditioners enhancing refrigeration will
save energy. The Santana 3000 series have three models, the lowest one
priced at less than 150,000 yuan (US$18,000), the analyst pointed out. The
first batch of the new sedans to be sold in Beijing arrived in the city two days
ago, according to the Shanghai VW's northern distribution center.
