Locals spend more on cars

Fewer individuals in Shanghai buy automobiles than in Beijing and
Guangzhou, China's two other key economies, but they prefer to buy higher-end
vehicles, today's Jiefang Daily said. About 4 percent of the people in the
East China city buy private cars, lower than Guangzhou's 5 percent and Beijing's
11 percent, the report said, citing an AC Nielsen survey. But a Shanghainese
will spend 221,180 yuan for a sedan (US$16,745), while Guangzhounese pay an
average of 193,530 yuan and Beijingers only 138,720 yuan, the survey
indicates.
