Volkswagen Automobile Co Ltd, Volkswagen's 50-50 local joint venture, will
unveil new editions of its Polo car later this year in a bid to seize back its
losing share in China's auto market, today's Laodong Daily said. According to
its general manager Chen Zhixin, SVW has completed the testing for the 2004
edition cars and will soon start production on a trial basis. The new edition
will have a larger trunk, he noted. But he didn't disclose the prices, which
industry insiders believed will not be higher than those for the existing Polo
models. Polo is a leading economy car model produced in China with a high
technology standard, Chen said. SWV will enlarge its production and cut
prices for auto equipment and follow-up spares to satisfy the market, he
added.
