Although travelling in a tourist car is one of the most fashionable means nowadays, citizens in Shanghai still show very little interest in it. Due to this, car rental companies are seldom willing to run the risk of operating a tourist service, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.

Despite the high costs of purchasing and maintaining a tourist car, the business basically peaks in the golden weeks and high seasons, which makes such companies prefer business deals and cars for weddings, said one principal belonging to a famous car renting company in Shanghai.

According to the department of traffic management, the existing laws and guidelines for plate registration and parking, etc, do not refer to this class of vehicle, which might be another reason why the tourist car experiences cold shoulders in Shanghai.
