Shanghai General Motors Corp. today began to recall its Buick Regal 2.0-liter
sedans, citing product safety concern, the company announced.
The recall of
27,168 vehicles produced between December 17, 2002 and September 28, 2004, does
not include the other two Regal products (the 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter engines),
according to a Sina.com report.
From market feedback Shanghai GM discovered
that the layout and connection of the vacuum tube in Regal vehicles is faulty
because the connection tube can become loose. If it does, the driver is forced
to jam on the brake. The faulty connection may cause traffic accidents in
emergencies.
According to Shanghai GM's after sale service center, three
traffic accidents involving the Buick Regal 2.0-liter sedan were the result of
the design fault, though they were small cases and no casualties were
reported.
Discovering this bug, Shanghai GM yesterday submitted a recall
proposal to the country's quality control authority.
It promised to fix the
connections free of any charge.
Shanghai GM will provide the recall service
at its after sales network throughout the nation. Its customer service
center will help to contact customers to arrange the recall service.
