The rainy weather during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday cooled down the
car market in Shanghai, but a sales peak is expected to arrive by April, today's
Youth Post reported.
Different from the weeklong May Day and National Day
holiday, more locals prefer to visit relatives and friends during the Spring
Festival holiday. Therefore, many car dealers even close door for the first
three days of the holiday. "No clients come to my shop until the fifth day of
the lunar new year, with most just watching rather than taking out money," said
a dealer. The rainy weather has made the car market more sluggish this year, he
added.
As car buyers can't get license plates or even the cars during the
holiday, many prospective buyers are opting to purchase after March, said an
industry analyst.
Boosted by the Labor Day holiday, the local car market is
expected to rebound by April, the analyst predicted, adding that local dealers
are likely to offer some preferential policies to attract car buyers by the end
of this quarter or early next quarter.
