Government efforts to boost employment seem to have paid off.
A total of
222,000 new jobs were created in the first four months of the year, 44 percent
of the yearly target, according to the Shanghai Labor and Social Security
Bureau, as cited in today's Jiefang Daily.
At the end of April, 262,000
jobless were registered in local urban areas, 12,000 fewer than at the end of
last year.
There were several government efforts to enhance job creation. In
the first quarter of this year, the government took over 54 unsold properties,
with a total area of nearly 100,000 square meters, and made them available to
2,500 organizations and units, which created 12,000 jobs. From January to April,
the government secured 835 loans, with a total value of 49.45 million yuan
(US$5.96 million) to people creating their businesses.
City government has
also enhanced efforts to help the poor find employment.
