During the past three days the Employment Service Center in Pudong has been
flooded by over 2 000 job seekers competing for the 500 positions in the new
Wal-Mart shopping mall, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
"I took a
number on the first floor, then waited for an interview on the sixth floor,"
said Li Xueqin, a 22-year-old girl who used to be a cashier at another shopping
mall.
"I feel like I am in the hospital, " Li smiled, waving the number slip
in her hand.
"We do this to ensure an equal interview opportunity for every
job seeker here, and to better control the person-flow in the center," explained
Hu, an official from the Public Relations Department of Wal-Mart China.
"Every applicant is offered the same period of time during the interview,
regardless of the position he is applying for, whether it is ordinary staff or
senior manager," Hu added.
The Human Resources Department of Wal-Mart China
believes that it is the favorable working conditions in the company that mostly
attracts local job seekers. The company will sign a continuing contract
with no fixed term with a staff member after a three-year contract trial period
is completed, if the work has been satisfactory.
"Most applicants for the
first interview are qualified as the requirements now are very simple. There is
even no limit on Hukou (residence requirement)," Wal-Mart claims.
