Fewer job fairs this year
16/1/2003 16:01

Some 80 job fairs are expected to be held in Shanghai this year, down from 180 last year, the Wenhui Daily reported today.

This year the city is requiring potential organizers to apply in advance, in a bid to cut the excessive number of job fairs and standardize the local labor market, according to the Shanghai Human Resources Agency Association.

Some 30 job agencies have submitted applications, which will be processed by the Shanghai Personnel Bureau, said an association spokesman. The relatively low number of applications is mainly due to a policy change requiring that entrance be free, the spokesman said.

The change in revenue structure will change the type of job fairs held. Now that sponsors have to rely on fees from recruiters, there will be more large job fairs, and also more specialized fairs featuring large enterprises, which bring in higher fees per booth, the spokesman noted.
