Government to fund public job fairs
18/2/2003 16:02
The Human Resources Agents' Association announced yesterday that it will
hold two big job fairs in March and May open to both job seekers and the
participating companies entirely free of charge, with the Shanghai government
acting as its financial sponsor for the first time.
It is estimated that
the two job fairs, referred to as public job fairs, will cost a total of some
1.1 million yuan (US$130,000). The funds will be jointly provided by the
association and the government.
Each fair is expected to host about 1,000
companies and offer nearly 20,000 vacant posts.
According to the Shanghai
Personnel Bureau, the government is financing the job fairs to reduce the heavy
burden on job fair organizers, such as the association, and to help more job
seekers receive free services.
Details of the sponsorship, such as the
amount of money to be contributed, have yet to be decided.
The Bureau
predicts that if the job fairs are successful, more such government-funded job
fairs will be held in Shanghai.
