Job-hoppers leave early-year vacancies
20/2/2003 16:02

Jobs are relatively easy to find at the beginning of the year, as job-hopping creates more openings, the Youth Post reported today.

People are more likely to change jobs early in the year, after receiving their year-end bonus.

Moreover, company business plans usually provide for new staff recruitment at the beginning of the year, said an industry analyst.

Because a lot of people are on vacation at the start of the year, many job seekers, especially university graduates, assume that few companies will be recruiting at that time. On the contrary, that's the best time to find a job, because many posts have been left vacant by job-hoppers, the analyst said.

For example, an opening usually attracts about 100 applicants during the rest of the year, but may attract only 20 in February, drastically reducing the competition, he added.
