Graduating students favor jobs in government departments
1/4/2003 16:03

Graduating university students rank government departments as their top choice in job seeking, according to a recent survey of 250 graduating university students.

According to the survey, 54 percent of graduating students want to seek a job in Shanghai.

More than 80 percent of graduating students expect to earn less than 3,000 yuan (US$361) per month on their first job, with many caring more about whether the job has development potential or not, the survey indicated.

Forty-six percent were willing to do a job unrelated to their field of study, said a survey analyst.

According to the survey, government department jobs are the top choice for graduating students, followed by jobs in the public sector, state-owned companies, wholly-owned foreign firms, Sino-foreign joint ventures and private firms.

Marketing and sales is the most popular sector, followed by IT, financial insurance, architecture and real estate, electronic appliances, biopharmaceutical and mechanic manufacturing industries, the survey indicted.
