Anhui grads lower job expectations
4/6/2003 16:06

Most fresh graduates in Anhui Province of east China are lowering their job hunting expectations, with more than 80 percent taking 'blue collar' jobs, today's eastday.com reported.

It's harder to find a job this year, due to the sharp growth in the number of graduates and the relative low supply of jobs. Especially after the nationwide outbreak of SARS, many job fairs have been canceled and the job market is flat.

Data from the provincial educational authority indicate about 60 percent of university graduates have found jobs and about 40 percent have signed job agreements, while in previous years both rates were between 80 to 90 percent in June.

Many graduates are taking first jobs as a temporary solution and will be ready to hop to better ones when China's job market recovers, job officials said.

Young people normally prefer office work with higher pay, they noted.
