Local graduating students ready to seek jobs outside city
30/6/2003 16:09

The number of graduating university students finding employment outside the city this year increased by seven percent from a year before, the first increase over the past three years, according to Fudan University, the Labor Post reported today.

The enlarged recruitment of university students in Shanghai has driven up the employment pressure on graduates, and the city's lifting of residence restrictions on university graduates has attracted a growing number of employees over the past several years.

As a result, more bachelor's degree holders and even master's degree holders are willing to seek jobs outside the city to avoid tough competition on the local labor market, said an industry analyst.

According to statistics on Fudan University, 289 graduating students will work outside the city this year, with 166 holding master's degree, an increase of 52 from a year before.

Most graduating students who work outside the city are from popular disciplines such as economics, IT, law and journalism, which are already saturated in the local labor market but which have development potential in other cities and provinces, according to Fudan University.

Renowned financial institutes, foreign-invested firms and large and mid-size state-owned enterprises have become the top consideration for graduating students seeking jobs outside the city, where preferential policies have attracted local university graduates.
