Job fairs to cut by half next year
11/7/2003 16:10
The number of job fairs to be held next year will be halved from this
year, with the total number predicted to reach no more than 40, according to the
Shanghai Personnel Bureau, the Youth Post reported today. The number of job
agencies in the city has increased from 114 to 365 since the opening of the
local labor market in October 2001, with the number of large-size job fairs
soaring to more than 160 last year, according to the bureau. The total number
of job fairs to be held this year should be no more than 80, according to a
Shanghai job recruitment work conference in December last year. "In a bid to
cut employment and job-hunting costs and improve the quality of job recruitment,
the number of large job fairs next year will be halved from this year," said the
spokesman with the Shanghai Personnel Bureau. The number of major
comprehensive job fairs should be cut, job agencies should be encouraged to set
up fixed job fairs and job recruitment via Internet and newspapers should be
enhanced in order to boost the local labor market and offer better services for
both the local job-hunters and employers, the spokesman
said.
