76 percent of university graduates find jobs

Some 76 percent of this year's university graduates in China have
signed labor agreements with employers to date, with nearly 500,000 graduates
not finding jobs, said Yuan Guiren, vice minister with the Education
yesterday. Most of the graduating university students that haven't found jobs
yet are ill-informed ones seldom attending social activities, Yuan
said. University students from the suburban areas, are eager to find jobs
after graduation to repay their families, he said. According to statistics,
93.7 percent of graduating university students found jobs in the year 1996, with
the proportion reaching 97.1 percent, 76.8 percent, 79.3 percent, 82.0 percent,
90.0 percent and 80 percent from 1997 to 2002 respectively.
