A total of 384,400 people hunted jobs in Shanghai in the first seven
months of the year, down 1.84 percent from a year before, while 314,500 workers
were needed in the local labor market during that period, up 22.37 percent from
a year before, the Wenhui Daily reported today. There was an oversupply of
computer operators in the first seven months of the year, with an average of
eight job-hunters competing for one job post, while the city is still short of
senior computer professionals, according to statistics. Mid and high-level IT
professionals mastering both the hardware and software knowledge have become the
hot properties in the local labor market, with project engineers, system
engineers and sales engineers proving most popular in the first seven months of
the year. A total of 13,800 administrative staff was needed from January to
July this year, while the number of job-hunters reached 86,100, with an average
of six people vying for one job post, the statistics indicated. Shanghai's
labor market is short of employees in cargo transport industry, with senior
talents mastering import & export trade business, e-commerce and logistics
knowledge needed most this year. The city's service industry can hardly
recruit local employees, with the hair-dressing and restaurant sectors short of
workers.
