Job hunters crowd local labor market
13/10/2003 16:12

More than 10,000 job-hunters went to the local labor markets last Saturday, the first day for job fairs to open after the National Day holiday, the Xinmin Evening News reported yesterday.
"We never expected so many people hunting for jobs," said an employee with the Zhongshan Road W. job fair. "All the booths were occupied at that day, and some employers had to set up their booths in the aisles," he added.
"We have been receiving consulting calls from employers since last Wednesday, and hardly any booths were available at some fixed job fairs by last Friday," said a spokesman with the China Human Resources Market (Shanghai).
On October 11, 115 employers established booths at the Zhongshan Road W. job fair, attracting 6,000 job-seekers. There were 62 employers at the Pudong job fair on Shangcheng Road, which had nearly 3,000 job-hunters.
Business representatives, sales assistants, marketing representatives and sales engineers have become the hot properties at the fairs.
Many local employers planned to increase recruitment after the National Day holiday, with the peak season for employment expected to be in the coming two or three months, said a professional advisor with www.zhaopin.com.
