Traffic barriers for locals seeking outside jobs

The inflow of employers from the Yangtze River Delta area seeking
talents in Shanghai has received cold shoulders in the city due to traffic
barriers, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today. Thanks to a joint
agreement in employment cooperation for graduating university students signed by
Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang Province on October 15, the neighboring cities of
Shanghai, including Jiaxing, Kunshan, Changzhou and Nantong are hurrying to seek
talents in Shanghai. They promote their preferential policies in introducing
highly-qualified talents from Shanghai, such as providing accommodation and
various other perks.
"We will pay all the costs for the Shanghai
students if only they are willing to come," promised Wu Jinhua, director with
the Jiaxing Personnel Bureau. However, most Shanghai students are concerned
whether they can return home after work every day. Working in the
surrounding cities, although with many benefits, hasn't aroused great interest
from local graduating university students. "The largest problem for working
outside the city previously was the registered permanent residence, but now I am
most worried about the time to start work, get off work and the traffic
problem," said a student with the Shanghai Jiaotong University. The
neighboring cities with two or three hours of round-trip journeys to Shanghai
are proving to be the most popular work destinations for locals. "Local
university students should be more far-sighted, and should grasp the opportunity
as soon as possible," said an educational expert. The Yangtze River Delta,
embracing 15 major cities in the region of the Shanghai municipality, Jiangsu
and Zhejiang provinces, is economically the most vigorous area in China, also
known as the "golden triangle" in China's tourism
industry.
