Local jobs popular overseas
28/10/2003 16:14

Working in Shanghai has become a magnet for overseas people, especially Chinese students studying abroad, the Shanghai Morning Post reported recently.
A Pudong job-recruitment delegation has attracted nearly 3,000 Chinese and overseas candidates during its visit in UK, France and Germany for nearly two weeks.
It is the third time for Pudong New Area to recruit talents abroad, but the first time to go to Europe.
The three job fairs held in Frankfurt, Paris and London on October 12, 18 and 19 respectively, have won great popularity among Chinese students studying there. The one in London, which can only hold 900 people, attracted 1,517 participants.
The fairs also became a hit to foreigners.
Employees in three popular industries - financial service, high-tech and government public service - were recruited at the fairs, with 197 mid and high-end job positions offering equivalent salaries as those provided abroad. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) can get up to US$100,000 a year and also are promised to get bonus every year.
High job positions and decent payment are cited as the two main reasons of the fairs to gain popularity, said the spokesman with the Pudong District government.
The difficulty in finding jobs in Europe has pushed many domestic students studying there to seek jobs in Shanghai, the spokesman added.
