Job situation improving in China
29/10/2003 16:14

Seven Chinese cities or provinces (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong) reported no laid-off workers to date when all the local re-employment service centers had closed, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security announced today.
The Labor and Social Security Bureau has issued a series of preferential policies to boost re-employment, following the requirements of the central government and State Council.
The number of laid-off workers from domestic state-owned enterprises reached 3.1 million by the end of September this year, down one million from the end of last year, with the number dropping by an average of 100,000 every month this year.
A total of 2.14 million laid-off workers have registered at the Chinese re-employment service center, with 2.13 million signing agreements with the center. Those signing agreements can get basic monthly living expenses and have social insurance fees paid by the center.
