Local employers head for Beijing
20/11/2003 16:16

The Shanghai Human Resources Service Center kicked off its first job fair at the Tsinghua University in Beijing yesterday afternoon, one day ahead of the timetable issued by the Ministry of Education allowing employers to recruit university graduates since November 20 every year, the Youth Post reported today.
The job fair, providing more than 500 job positions in over 20 companies in Shanghai and running for only four hours from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. yesterday, has attracted more than 1,000 students from 20-plus universities in Beijing, such as the Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and Beijing Broadcasting Institute.
"There are too many job-hunters, and I am sweaty by only wearing a shirt in such a cold day in Beijing," said a job recruiter at the fair, adding that it is impossible for them to wrap up the recruitment at 8 p.m.
"We have held job fairs in Beijing for five consecutive years, and such fairs are hailed by local employers," said a spokesman with the Shanghai Human Resources Service Center. "Besides more than 20 local companies attending the fair, tens of others entrust us with recruiting talents for them, mainly from biomedical, IT, chemical engineering foreign trade and mechanical manufacturing industries, " the spokesman added.
Jobs in IT industry have gained much popularity at the fair, with many applying for jobs at the China Telecom's Shanghai branch.
Shanghai is the most favorable place for them to work in, and the 2010 World Expo in the city will need many highly-qualified personnel," according to many university graduates at the fair.
Preferential human resources policies offered to the personnel working in Shanghai are cited as the main reason for the growing number of job-hunters in the city, an industry analyst pointed out.
