Growing job-hopping expected
2/1/2004 16:17

Most workers in Shanghai are intending to change jobs soon, according to a survey by the www.zhaopin.com and www.chinajobonline.com, two leading domestic headhunting websites, the Shanghai Evening Post reported today.
According to the survey, 24 percent of respondents plan to change jobs at the year end and 29 percent prepare to hop to another job after the Spring Festival holiday.
The number of resumes sent at the year end soared by more than 10,000 from the middle of the year, mainly applying for jobs in IT, trade, financial, consulting and tourism sectors.
Mid and high-end professionals are the major part of the prospective job-hoppers this year, with the number of returning personnel with overseas study or work experience on the rise, said the spokesman with the Chinajobonline.
The number of resumes applying for senior job posts (need more than five years of management experience and more than eight years of professional technological work experience) reached 3,084 in December this year.
Although SARS broke out this year, Shanghai boasted rapid economic growth, with many industries reporting sustained growth, said an advisor with www.zhaopin.com.
The city's more opening policies to highly-qualified talents and personnel with overseas study or work experience are cited as the main reason for a growing number of job-hoping, the advisor pointed out.
University graduates who join the work force for only one or two years should be cautious in changing jobs, as they have to accumulate work experience before finding a better job, he added.
