City sets part-time job pay standards

The Shanghai Labor and Social Security Bureau has published pay standards
for 54 part-time jobs. They are the nation's first pay standards of its kind,
today's China Youth Daily reported. The jobs cover interpreters,
housekeepers, nurses, dressers, driving trainers, gym coaches and personal
tutors. Under the new standards, simultaneous interpreters for languages of
Spanish, French and German, are the highest paid, with a maximum hourly rate of
8,000 yuan (US$967). Oral interpreters will earn up to 1,500 yuan an hour,
while translators for written material will receive a maximum of 750
yuan. Personal tutors will earn between 10 and 20 yuan an
hour.
