A Zhaopin
(www.zhaopin.com) survey of more than two million resumes from Chinese cities
and provinces found two significant changes to the incomes of Chinese employees
this year, today's Beijing Morning Post reported.
Workers from domestic
state-owned enterprises (SOEs) should be happy about the first change: their
monthly salaries this year increased more rapidly than those from foreign
companies, although their actual incomes were still far less than their
counterparts. Workers from foreign-invested companies earned an average of
3,820 yuan (US$460) monthly this year, followed by those from private companies
(2,916 yuan), SOEs (2,789 yuan) and government departments (2,552
yuan). However, compared with last year, the average monthly salary in SOEs
increased by 19 percent this year, three percentage points above those in
foreign companies. Employees in government departments only saw an average
salary increase of three percent, the lowest increase. Because of the payroll
system reforms in SOEs, it is the first time for salaries in SOEs to increase
faster than those in foreign-invested companies, but the income gap among
different levels of SOE workers is widening, said an expert with Zhaopin. He
explained that the soaring incomes of mid and senior-level managers had mainly
contributed to the increases. The second change will surely cheer up
Beijingers as their average monthly salary of 3,764 yuan this year exceeded that
of Shanghai employees for the first time. In previous years, Shanghai
employees always led Beijingers in salaries, but this year, things have changed:
Shenzhen employees ranked No.1 with an average monthly salary of 4,109 yuan,
followed by Beijing (3,764 yuan--up eleven percent) and Shanghai (3,650
yuan). The whole domestic labor market has generally seen salary increases
this year, but those who just joined the work force might be the only exception.
General managers in China enjoyed an average monthly salary of 7,647 yuan, up
from 6,925 yuan last year; department managers rose to 4,984 yuan from 4,278
yuan. However, those with less than one year of work experience saw salaries
decline from 1,645 yuan to 1,591 yuan.
