The first job fair sponsored by a Japanese enterprises held at the Marriott
Hotel Hongqiao attracted over 10,000 undergraduates who were competing for 350
positions, reported today's Oriental Morning Post. "We planed to hire 110
civil servants with excellent Japanese language skills, 230 technicians and 10
managers", said one principal from the Shanghai Japanese Club on Commerce, "so,
only 500 out of the 10,000 applicants were given interviews." Xie Yinzhi,
Personnel manager of Hitachi Information Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., indicated
that the salary for new graduates in Japanese enterprises is lower than that
paid by western companies. Success however often depends on the personal
qualities of the applicants. "Excellent team spirit is one attractive
characteristic in Japanese enterprises." said Dong, an undergraduate applicant

Japan."
