University graduates in Shanghai are favoring jobs in the city center and
rejecting low-paying jobs, today's Wenhui Daily reported.
With 110,000 local
university graduates to join the work force this year, two job fairs have been
held at city universities in order to increase the employment rates for local
campuses.
Among the more than 7,200 resumes received at the fairs, most went
for the jobs at such city centers as Huangpu, Pudong, Xuhui and Jing'an
Districts, while jobs at the local suburban districts, including Chongming
County and Nanhui District, received less attention.
A majority of university
graduates applied for jobs with a monthly salary of around 3,000 yuan (US$361),
such as mechanical engineer, software (hardware) engineer, electronic engineer,
English translator and administrator, with up to 50 applicants vying for one
job.
Most jobs offered at the fairs were salaried at between 1,500 and 3,000
yuan a month. University graduates should not care too much about the salaries
of their first jobs, but should pay more attention to improving their
capabilities, said an industry analyst, adding that job seekers cared less about
the insurances offered by employers.
