Shanghai exports surge

Shanghai reported an export volume of US$5.92 billion in January and
February this year, an increase of 39.93 percent from a year before, Shanghai
Customs announced yesterday.
Shanghai's export growth was 7.13 percentage
points higher than the national average, the first time the city's export growth
rose above that figure.
Private-owned foreign trade companies enjoyed
rapid export growth in the first two months of the year with an export volume of
US$142 million, 12.3 times that of a year before.
Private foreign trade
companies have become the fifth largest export group in
Shanghai.
Shanghai exported US$1.532 billion worth of high-tech products
in January and February, a jump of 87.11 percent from a year ago, accounting for
25.88 percent of all exports from the city.
District and county-level
export volumes were US$3.16 billion during the two months, increasing 43 percent
from a year before, and accounting for 53.37 percent of all exports from the
city.
Shanghai is maintaining rapid growth of exports to the United
States, Japan, the European Union and the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region this year. The largest growth was in exports to the EU and US, 56.6
percent and 47.68 percent respectively, for a total of US$1.079 billion and
US$1.4 billion respectively.
