Shanghai reported an export volume of US$5.92 billion in January and February this year, an increase of 39.93 percent from a year before, Shanghai Customs announced yesterday.

Private-owned foreign trade companies enjoyed rapid export growth in the first two months of the year with an export volume of US$142 million, 12.3 times that of a year before.

Private foreign trade companies have become the fifth largest export group in Shanghai.

District and county-level export volumes were US$3.16 billion during the two months, increasing 43 percent from a year before, and accounting for 53.37 percent of all exports from the city.

Shanghai is maintaining rapid growth of exports to the United States, Japan, the European Union and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region this year. The largest growth was in exports to the EU and US, 56.6 percent and 47.68 percent respectively, for a total of US$1.079 billion and US$1.4 billion respectively.
