28/4/2003 16:33

Starting September 1 this year, Chinese people will be able to open personal payment accounts at banks, through which they can pay public utility fees, repay bank loans and make investments, the China Youth Post reported today.

According to the People's Bank of China, the nation's central bank, all transactions involving bank payments can be processed through the personal payment account, including paying utility fees, repaying housing and car loans, getting credit card advances and making securities investments.

It is convenient for Chinese people to have such an account, said a spokesman with the People's Bank of China.

According to the central bank, people can choose one of their savings accounts as the personal payment account or open a new payment account at any bank they like.
