High-tech product exports soaring
4/8/2003 16:34
A total of US$10.625 billion valued high-tech products have been exported
via Shanghai Port in the first half of the year, jumping by 63.3 percent from a
year before, the Jiefang Daily reported today. The rapid development in the
Chinese high-tech industry over the past several years has boosted the exports
of high-tech products. Many multinational companies such as Intel, Shanghai
Huahong NEC and Tech-Front Shanghai Computer Co Ltd are keen to launch
businesses in the Yangtze River Delta, which is expected to become an IT
manufacturing base covering semi-conductors and laptops. High-tech product
exports got little impact from the SARS epidemic, with the export volumes of IT
products in the second quarter of the year reaching US$6.248 billion, an
increase of 42.7 percent from a quarter
before.
