ICBC improves services in Beijing

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC)'s Beijing branch
will increase the number and functions of its Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs)
in the city, rebuilding 120 service outlets and adding 30 self-service banks as
part of the bank's move to offer better services for clients and prevent them
from waiting in queues, the Beijing Youth Post reported today. "We will add
more than 500 ATMs this year, with the total number increasing from 780-plus to
1,300, and these machines have more paying functions (such as collecting traffic
fines, handset call fees)," said Wang Jinshan, vice governor with the
bank. Some small service outlets will be re-located and expanded to areas
with more densely populated areas, with up to 120 such outlets being
reconstructed, said Zhang Aimin, general manager with the financial department
of the ICBC's Beijing branch. "We will assign two or three guides in some
self-service banks and outlets to teach clients how to operate this equipment,"
Zhang said. This year, all the service windows in at least 50 banks will
provide service not only to companies, but also individuals, so that people will
not need to wait in queues, Zhang said, adding that currently, only a small
proportion of service windows are specifically for
individuals.
