A credit card specifically for university students in Beijing will enable
them to have their own credit records, eastday.com reported today.
The
Jincheng International Credit Rating Ltd and the Guangdong Development Bank have
jointly issued a credit card for university students in Beijing, the first of
its kind in China.
Students from full-time universities and colleges can
apply for the credit card. They are required to provide average living costs
over regular intervals.
According to the Guangdong Development Bank,
undergraduates are able to get 1,000 yuan (US$120) on a credit line,
postgraduates can get 3,000 yuan and those studying for PhD's can get 5,000
yuan. The credit card will expire when students leave the campus, so it is not
issued to students who are in their senior year.
The credit cards can provide
funding for student living and studies and students can enjoy discounts in the
neighboring bookstores and computer shops.
However, students are considering
more their credit records than the cards themselves. "I can have my own credit
report when I graduate, and it will help me to find a good job," said Shang, a
junior student in Beijing.
University students' credit records will not be
blank any longer, said Li Qing, general manager with the Jincheng International
Credit Rating Ltd.
"We are not focusing on expanding new financial products,
but on establishing a credit system for Chinese university students," said Cai
Hongbin, vice president with the Guangdong Development Bank's Beijing
branch.
